Book Of The Month – Eligibility
Since we are now taking book review submissions, you should probably know the process involved, along with the prizes available.
How do I make my book eligible for review?
1.) To make your book eligible for review, you must first submit your excerpt. Please note: Those who submit a book on our KDP Select form do not gain elegibility. Only those who have submitted a 1500+ word excerpt are eligible.
Note: If you have submitted your book in the past, you are already eligible. Please do not resubmit your excerpt from the same book. A different book is fine, but not an existing book.
If you aren’t sure if you posted, please look through the “Book Excerpts by Author Name” page. If your excerpt was previously posted, it will be there under your name.
Remember when submitting your excerpt, that it must be a minimum of 1500 words. The sample is the chief way that readers get a sense of your style. We read these excerpts as well, and it is a factor in whether or not we choose to review your book.
2.) Wait.
We have many books to read through, and many more books to post. If we read your excerpt, and choose it for review, your book may “jump the queue”, “go to the head of class”, and otherwise elbow its way to the front of the line.
This is a rare instance, but we do reserve the right to do so. We run a backlog of 3-4 weeks with regard to submissions, and we expect that line to get longer.
How do I become “Book of the Month”?
I will choose at least one book per month for review. If I choose to review more, they will be finalists for “Book of the Month”.
From among the books I review, I will select the “Book of the Month”.
What do finalists for “Book of the Month” receive?
We create a separate post for their book review, which means not one, but two chances of being found on our site. In addition, there will be a roundup at the end of a given month featuring the finalists.
More importantly, I will post the review on the finalists’ Goodreads, Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, ARE book profiles where other prospective buyers outside of this site can see them.
Plus, you’ll get a lovely *virtual* trophy/banner, that you can display on your site.
What do “Book of the Month” winners receive?
The same honors as the finalists, plus 60+ days where their book is featured on every page of the site. For the first 30+ days, winners will be featured as “Book of the Month” on the sidebar of our site, under the heading of ”Book of the Month”. For the remaining period of time, they will be featured as “Last Month’s Winner”.
Is there a “Book of the Year”?
Yes.
At the end of the year, all twelve “Book of the Month” winners will automatically be eligible for Indie Book List’s “Book of the Year”. The “Book of the Year” will be featured for 365+ days on all pages of our site.
That’s a massive promotional opportunity for your book.
What do you get out of all this?
Umm…The satisfaction of a job well done? Nothing that we know of.
